Article- How Facebook ‘Contagion’ Spreads
Here is the link to the article: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/04/facebook-disease-friends/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wired%2Findex+%28Wired%3A+Top+Stories%29
According to this article people have joined Facebook because of pressure from their peers. When getting an invitation from Facebook and someone sees their friend is using Facebook, they are more likely to sign up. I feel like this is similar to everyday life. Say you are doing a heads up vote, you do not want to be the odd person out, so you will go with the masses and what everyone else is doing.

Article- Joseph Kony, Nyan Cat, And The Science of Viral Media
Here is the link to the article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jmaureenhenderson/2012/03/26/joseph-kony-nyan-cat-and-the-science-of-viral-media/
This article talks about the science of viral media, how all of these memes that we are constantly seen strewn across the internet come to be. Viral media is clear on its intentions, there’s nothing confusing about it. It is usually distributed across huge social platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest; this way it will reach the largest audience fast. Though it has a very short shelf life, there is always reincarnation. I know that I find myself quoting YouTube videos form years past, and referencing other memes throughout my daily life. It is all about what platform the media is distributed on. For example, Tumblr and Reddit would be good platforms to distribute on. The consumers taste in viral media is pretty predictable, and the creators know that. So when producing media make sure that these basics are followed, and you might have the likelihood of becoming an viral star.

Article- Creative Uses of Stickers in Advertising
Here is the link for the article: http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2010/05/creative-uses-of-stickers-in-advertising/
The use of stickers has become a very popular use of advertising, it is cheap and can be aimed at a very large audience. The stickers shown in the article are very cleaver and attract attention of anyone that passes. This relates to my meme, because it uses stickers as a way of advertising and attracting people’s attention. However, my meme takes it to the next level and involves social media with the stickers by placing hashtags on the stickers.

Article- What makes something go viral? The Internet according to Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman

Zimmerman would pass on and post articles or videos, which were short and keep people attention. These posts would consist of things that are currently trending in the cultural and social world of the Internet. By posting these short articles that attract the public’s attention this is giving a new meaning to journalism and the way that it travels across the web. Those most of the articles may be more about fun instead of current political issues, and think that advertising these produces more cultural memes, and shows people that some news is fun and not boring. This gives a rating scale to sites, if the site doesn’t produce something of value during the week then it drops—all about competition, and who is presenting the most entertaining story.

Article- Hashtag Twubs
Here is the link to the article: http://twubs.com/
This website provides a way for a Twitter user to explore all of the trending tags on Twitter. Though there is the explore option on Twitter, I think that this website gives you more options and it shows you the top trends. This gives you the options to follow many people and also learn what the hashtag is all about. Many people who have just joined Twitter, or have been using it for a while and still are unsure what it is all about this website allows for exploration and education about hashtags.

Article- 3 Facebook Timeline Mistakes: Don’t Do What These Brands Did
Here is the link to the article: http://sproutsocial.com/insights/2012/05/facebook-timeline-mistakes/
This article covered the top 3 things that brands do wrong with the Facebook Timeline, and I have to say that I completely agree. The first one was their choice in cover photos. Constantly changing the cover photo is extremely annoying and just clogs up everyone’s news feed. Make sure that the cover photo is not to complex because it is the first thing you see. Think simple and focus on the business. The second one was overusing the internal Facebook applications. If a brand is constantly spamming my news feed with questions about their products, then I will unfollow their Facebook page. I see this almost as some sort of spam that I do not want to be a part of. Finally the third one is posting repetitive content. Make sure that your posts are relevant; do not be constantly posting the same thing or similar things over and over again. It is understandable that the brand is trying to get their product out there, but this does not need to result in the attack of similar images on everyone’s news feed.

I think that the ASMR is a very cool concept; the fact that people are relating to different noises is something that I think we unintentionally doing all the time. For example you may hear a song that reminds you of a past relationship. I think that relating sounds can create a certain emotion. ASMR is creating a feeling of tranquility for the listeners. People respond to their senses.

Meme-Bumper Stickers and Social Media
Combining the aspect of the physical world with technology. You would take a bumper sticker that would have a specific hashtag on it, and then pass them out to be placed around like any bumper sticker. This could be a certain advertising scheme to spread a new brand. People would place the bumper sticker, Instagram it and then hashtag the word that is on the sticker. By doing this one could see how far the sticker has traveled around. For example Sugarloaf stickers, have been found around the world because people are taking them and sticking them where ever they go. When people see bumper stickers, they usually recognize the logo, and will encourage them to go to these certain places or websites. By bringing in Instagram and Twitter, this is bringing the social media into the aspect of advertising and bumper stickers.
